Take and Toss…

This being May and all, we had our mom’s group party at my place this month. It’s always the first Thursday of every month (thanks for letting me know Karla), and May was my month, so May 1st it was! We had Hawaiian Haystacks - I made the rice and gravy, and everyone else brought toppings. There were only 3 people who actually knew what HH were, and they were both LDS. Funny, huh? I kept hearing people say, “Hey, this is really good.” or “Wow, this is tasty!” or “Oh, I didn’t think it would taste this yummy!”. It was very funny.

Everyone brought something to share, and some took their containers home, but others brought their toppings in “take ‘n toss” plastic ware. When I tried to give Karla back her container with the onions in it, she said it was no problem to keep it. “What about your container?” I asked.
“What?” she replied, “It’s take ‘n toss. I don’t care!”

Um…did I miss something? Do people actually TAKE this stuff places and TOSS it when they are done? They don’t wash it? They don’t re-use it? When did this start happening? I still wash and rinse out the ziploc bags (unless they had liquids or yuckies in them), dry them out, and re-use them. Where have I been? I think I’m a little outa the loop…

Except, I think I’m going to volunteer to host the mom’s group party the next time I start needing containers for our leftovers - I’ve got lots for now!

Happy Valentime’s Day!

What do you mean it’s not called Valentime’s Day? That’s what my friend Robin calls it! She even gave Valentimes out at the Valentimes party on Valentimes Day! Hee, hee, hee. Karla and I gave her a really hard time about it, but somehow, funny things like that fade unless they are put on paper or typed in a blog.So I had this really cute picture of Noah that I super-imposed under a monkey who was holding a banana, typed, “I’d go BANANAS if you’d be my Valentine”, and gave them out at the Valentime’s party on Wednesday. For some reason, I can’t get it to load, so you get a two-year-old picture of Noah’s second Valentimes Day when I made some yummy chocolate-covered pretzels for Helaman because he is such a sweetie.

This year, things are pretty simple - no card, balloons, or flowers. But I did get dinner brought home to me by my hubby, and how awesome is it NOT to cook on Valentimes Day?

I don’t know what it’s about, or why it started, or why we still celebrate it, but hope everyone had a great day and that you enjoyed it with your special Valentime….hee, hee, hee…Robin is going to KILL me!

Yummy Pretzles!

Mom’s Par-tay!

(L-R) The kids having their gift exchange, the girls showing off their goodies, Noah chowing down Bountiful Beer Bread, Ken reading everykiddie a story (There’s a Monster At The End Of This Book!), and Gina and Karla, hangin out and smiling pretty for the camera.
Well, our December Mom’s group par-tay has come and gone today. It was a great
evening filled with lots of laughter, fantastic food, and beautiful belches.
Hm…let’s retreat back to the Sesame Street days and sing a little song;

“One of these things is not like the others,

One of these things just doesn’t belong.

Can you guess which thing is not like the others

By the time I finish this song?”

Yes, and now you have to guess. Shouldn’t be hard, as it’s the only gross one up there. Yep, the food was gross! BBQ pork, sinful potatoes, fruit, corn, veggies, tasty taquitos, pie and cookies. Ok, so the food was completely yummy, it was my beautiful belches that didn’t quite belong! But it wasn’t really my fault, REALLY!! Robin totally put me up to it by threatening me and saying; “I’ll tell everyone what W.D. means!!” And she would! (don’t know what W.D. means? great, just checking)
So the deal is: if I will belch, Greg will show us his dance. Yes, I said Greg. Oh, I forgot to mention, all the husbands came too, which made for a fun night for everyone, except me! I didn’t have anyone to stand up for me so I was attacked, ATTACKED I tell ya!
Suddenly I’m not a “white-girl” anymore, I’m a “red-girl”! (fine, so it took me a minute to get the joke….leave me alone!). Which means these people had no mercy and I was beat red for about 10 minutes. I was worried that the secret origin of W.D. would come out and I would have to face the humility of being W.D. to more than just Karla and Robin, it would be to like, 5 whole people! Yikes!!
Then it came…the rumbly in my tumbly…I could feel it! I inhaled, exhaled, inhaled again and
“BBBBRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRPPPP!!!!!”
Out it came. Much to my embarrassment, everyone looked shocked. Except for Karla and Robin of course. Sheesh, girls, where’s the love?!?!? But fair’s fair, right?
Because then we all got to watch Greg’s “Stevie Wonder” dance, and suddenly, my burping talent didn’t seem so awful!!!

Hola!!

I've lived in Southern Arizona my whole life, so I'm easily entertained by simple things like rainfall and snow and bodies of water bigger than my foot. Hele and Mr. B. complete this ensamble (unless you count the animals, then you're dealing with a circus)!!

Say What?

A Thought For Life...

"Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he's been robbed. Most putts don't drop. Most beef is tough. Most children grow up to be just people. Most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration. Most jobs are dull. Life is like an old-time railroad journey -- delays, sidetracks, smoke , dust, cinders and jolts, interspersed only by occasional beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride." -President Gordon B. Hinckley
